Cam Smith headlines ISPS HANDA Australian Open
Off the back of impressive victories in the breakaway LIV Golf Tournament this year, Australia’s own Cam Smith will be headed back Down Under to compete in the ISPS HANDA Australian Open in Sydney as he sets his sights on a maiden homeland title.
Australia’s top-ranked golfer has been in scintillating form the green, recently climbing to the top of the LIV Golf individual rankings, with back-to-back wins in the LIV Golf League, and two top-10 finishes in this year‘s majors.
The 30-year-old will also be looking to defend his Open Championship title later this month at Royal Liverpool.
Born in Queensland, Smith is arguably Australia’s number one drawcard for golfing fans alike, with the desire to secure his inaugural Australian Open title on home soil burning. Smith’s best finish in an Australian Open was when he lost a playoff to Jordan Spieth in 2016.

“I’ve been close and I feel like it’s been right there for me a bunch of times and I haven’t really taken advantage of it.”
Upon the announcement of Smith’s homecoming later this year to the ISPS HANDA Australian Open, Golf Australia chief executive James Sutherland said Smith’s pursuit of the tournament would be “one of the highlights of the summer of sport”.
